Architectural education is a rich experience that appeals to a variety of students from many backgrounds. And, because not everyone has the same goals, we’ve developed a number of paths for undergraduate students to study architecture and the built environment. Students can choose from architecture or one of the allied professions of urban planning, construction management, or environmental and interior design.
The Department of Design is an award-winning tour-de-force in the design arena today. We embrace new and emerging design concepts while building on classic design foundations. The Department has a long history of engaging its students in the practice of design thinking and visualization to create beautiful, innovative, and responsible solutions (products, spaces, systems, messages and services) that respond to human needs and enhance the quality of everyday life.
The KU Master of Urban Planning program emphasizes policy planning and analysis within the context of urban or urbanizing environments. Policies affecting urban issues are formulated at all levels of government--federal, state, regional, and local--as well as in the private sector. The MUP program is geared towards meeting the needs for public planning policy in all these forums.
