Statement of Diversity, Tolerance, and Inclusion

Monday, September 26, 2016

This past week has been a difficult one for minority and marginalized members of our community. We must unite to speak out now and in the future against the kinds of incidents of violence, harassment, and intolerance that have erupted around the campus and country.

The KU School of Architecture, Design, & Planning believes that diversity, tolerance, inclusion and social justice are the foundational values of a sustainable society. We, the administrators of the School, pledge to uphold these values within our School, across our campus, and beyond them. We urge all of our faculty, staff and students to speak up and speak out against any violation of these ideals. To remain silent is simply not enough. We recognize there are campus-wide concerted efforts underway to foster a diverse, equitable and just environment for students, faculty and staff and join those efforts.

If you have concerns, we invite you to reach out to the Dean’s office or to a trusted faculty or staff member. You can also report acts of violence, harassment and discrimination to the KU Public Safety Office (kupso@ku.edu, 785-864-5900) and Institutional Opportunity & Access (ioa@ku.edu, 785-864-6414).

Let’s work together to foster love and understanding, and to uphold our values.

Sincerely yours,
